Night Science Workshop materials refreshed

Dear Colleague,

The Night Science Workshop on the Creative Scientific Process just got a major refresh!

Since the launch of the Night Science Institute last year, these workshop resources have been freely available online for anyone interested in bringing more creative and curious thinking into science.

You can now access to a single-slide deck for the entire 1-day workshop featuring:

• The “Day Science vs. Night Science” framework

• Interactive thinking tools and exercises

• New sections exploring AI and creativity

• Insights into the connection between humor and scientific innovation

And there’s more! Following the inaugural Train-the-Trainer Workshop, the first cohort of certified Night Science Trainers inspired the addition of brand-new exercise demonstration videos. These clips feature Itai and Martin walking through workshop favorites including:

• What Is Your Worst Idea?

   

• Import/Export

   

• A Hypothesis Is a Liability

   

• The Two Languages of Science

The videos are presented on YouTube and can easily be embedded directly into presentations!

Welcome Marissa!

Marissa Russo, PhD has joined the Night Science team as our Comms Manager. Her focus is on supporting our online Community and improving and broadening our communications. 

Marissa blends her interest in science with a passion for communications: she completed her PhD in Neuroscience at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and completed a AAAS Mass Media Fellowship in 2025.

Drawing conclusions

Professor André Schneider from the University of Berne has written an essay about how the process of sketching and painting prompts us to think and come up with new ideas. He told us that he’s a big fan of the “Night Science” podcast and that his piece is very much inspired by it. Have some fun reading it!
